Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense (CBRN defense or CBRNE defense) are protective measures taken in situations in which chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear warfare (including terrorism) hazards may be present. CBRN defense consists of CBRN passive protection, contamination avoidance and CBRN mitigation.
FSF-IHCE Mission
The use of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear materials as the Weapons of Mass Destruction (WDM) is a serious threat to international peace and security. FSF-IHCE CBRN office is prepared to help national and international governments respond to and recover from CBRN occurrences. CBRN incidents may range from weapon of mass destruction incidents, to spills or fires involving HAZMATs, to accidents involving radiological/nuclear materials.
What we do
The CBRN Office develops, maintains, advises and researches on CBRN risk – based strategies, policies, plans, activities, tools, training, practice, partnerships and management to mitigate the risks and consequences of CBRN events.
The CBRN FSF-IHCE department provides a comprehensive, standardized suite of CBRN response capabilities for federal, state, local, tribal and regional emergency responders and planners, which can quickly and effectively reduce the risk and protecting the environment and sustaining the economy.
